Another night at Christy's

So, I did the phone book trick at Christy's last night ... and it paid off in two free beers. Pretty awesome, huh?

Yay, tear up your phone books

I saw it on MySpace, figured I'd give it a try. I tore two other phone books before I decided to record it. Eh, they were old anyway. I kept the little Embarq one I got the other day. Who needs four phone books anyway???

This is just wrong

I'm all for not wasting beer and all, but I may have crossed the line here. Hell, my defense? I'm a pirate, and we don't waste our grog. Arrrrrgh!!!

That tickle in my nose

I've had this feeling so many times before. It's that tickle in my nose I get a few days before getting sick ... be it a head cold, a allergy breakout or sinus infection. The feeling turns into a sickness with the same dependability of a Swiss watch (wtf does that even mean, anyway?). So, it's late Thursday night, and I'm thinking I'll really be feeling it come Saturday -- the ECU-NCSU game. Great. Maybe, just maybe, it'll hold of until Sunday. I've got to cover a game tomorrow, probably in the rain. I'm sure that's not going to help. It's this weather ... cold one day and hot the next. It sucks.

Looking on the bright side, it could have stuck at much worse times. One year, I got about the same thing on Super Bowl weekend when Matt and Anderson were both in town for the festivities. I spent the whole weekend hopped up on cold meds and NOT drinking beers with the boys. Yeah, that sucked.

This might not be so bad.

Blast from the past

Look what I found. Here it is, folks, John Swartz from 1999. It's interesting, the thoughts that run through your head when you look at old photos of yourself, your friends and family. Take that photo, for example. That's me, obviously, on the way to my senior prom. I saw that picture on my father's flickr site, actually. I look at the barely-a-man in that photo, and I wonder. Did I live up to his hopes, dreams? Did I exceed them? Am I where he thought I'd be about now? I also look at my date. Now, she's a married mother one, maybe even two by now. How we've both grown since that afternoon. Heck, I can even grow a beard now. Just look at that babyface!

I'm happy where I am now, quite happy, actually. But sometimes, every now and then, I wish I could go back to that day and do it all over again (shoot, I had already taken the SAT and been accepted to ECU by that date). I wonder what different decisions I would have made. Had I made those decisions, would I have been given the opportunities that I've had up until now? Would I have had better opportunity? Less opportunities? Who knows.

That's what you get when you mix reflection with beer.

Night, all.

B-North brings it

WCTI's Brian North tells it like it is ... he loves his high school volleyball.

Too, from Christy's ... a poem

-- Beer (a sonnet) --
It's poetry class, don't use the word 'flow.'
Hell with that, it's the only way I know
to describe what my love does all night long,
a robust red or a super sweet blonde.

Only to brush against my lips, oh joy!
Under the influence, I am a toy.
Happiness is brought, freedom given, too.
Don't forget the courage will take you through.

Then to sleep, and you are late to awake
for that meeting you have, those notes to take.
The headache, it will come. And don't forget
that the blonde or redhead will leave a scent.

All will know that you were at it all night.
The flow, the beer, empty glasses -- just right.

I wrote that at Christy's Euro Pub on Tuesday, Oct. 9.

Live, from Christy's . . .

Nothing like buying a beer for a man in need.

. . .

Best overheard line of the night, "She told me she'd dump me if I had another cigarette. I should just pee in her bed."

By the way, he had that cigarette.
